Cheesy Pinwheels with Italian Dip
One of the big surprises to me in my search for non-dairy products that are ready-to-go and found outside of the organic section of our grocery store, was the discovery that many of Pillsbury's canned bread products are non-dairy. For example, did you know that Pillsbury's Crescents don't actually contain any dairy? How can that be? They are so light and buttery. Without knowing for sure, I think that it may have something to do with corn syrup. I've noticed that a lot of products described as "buttery" contain corn syrup while milk is missing from the ingredient list.

With a can of buttery non-dairy goodness in my hand, I searched for a recipe to use it and found Cheesy Pinwheels with Italian Dip. To make this recipe completely non-dairy, I made the following substitutions:
- I used shredded rice mozzarella instead of it's dairy counterpart
- Instead of Italian Seasoning (which usually contains some dried parmesan or other cheese) I used dried oregano and basil
- And for the tomato sauce, I used Barilla's Marinara sauce which luckily for us, is delicious straight out of the jar and contains no dairy
This recipe was really easy to make and would be a nice appetizer. I served it as a side dish to meatballs with the sauce poured into small-sized ramekins. Because every meal should have a reason to use a ramekin.
